Across hundreds of matter types in all sectors and jurisdictions, we focus on solutions and impact.
Situation
Our client worked for an insurance company who required assistance to respond to subpoena requests of varying sizes. The bundles of documents (as small as 100 and as large as 3,000) are provided to our client in a zip file. The legal team needed to quickly review the document bundles to determine relevance to subpoena scope, identify and redact any privileged or confidential information and prepare a schedule of documents for delivery to the Court.
Solution
Using our specialised processing workflow, we were able to quickly make the data available for review in a clear and logical manner with the data having been de-duplicated, all documents made text searchable and a basic list of documents (using existing file information) prepared for the team within a matter of hours. The review workspace is structured to suit the review with tags for relevance, privilege etc set up and ready to go so the team can begin review straight away. The legal team can make part or whole document redactions throughout the review, as required.
Once the review was completed, we ran various quality checks to ensure consistency of decision making (i.e., privileged documents have redactions present) and prepared a final, hyperlinked and text searchable list for production.
Impact
This simple solution allowed our client to:
Quickly provide a sorted and structured bundle of documents from which the review can commence
Easily and accurately identify, categorise, and redact relevant material
Reduce the manual time associated with preparing and finalising the hyperlinked response
Limit the risk associated with human error using standardised quality checks
Provide a clear framework and process that can be rolled out to deal with multiple future subpoena responses
